Welcome Colorado Cellists! Are you an adult cello player (18+ years old) in Colorado looking to meet like-minded players to play cello music together (e.g. cello choir, ensemble music, etc.) and learn more about technique, musicality and group playing? Then this is for you!
No audition is required to join - just friendly folks who want to play with other Colorado cellists! Abilities can range from beginners who can read music, to more advanced players. The idea is to create a fun, non-competitive, supportive group for cellists to meet, play, practice, learn and perform cello ensemble music. We believe there are a lot of folks out there who would appreciate having a place to meet like-minded folks, and play fun music in a supportive environment. We invite adult amateur cellists of all abilities and levels from Boulder and surrounding areas to join the project. We currently have cellists from across the Front Range participating in the project, including cellists from Denver, Longmont, Superior, Golden, Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield, Westminster, Arvada, Erie, Thornton, Aurora, Colorado Springs and even Aspen! Our MissionThe Boulder Cello Project is an organization committed to supporting Colorado cellists by providing a non-competitive friendly place to practice, learn and share knowledge of music and the art of cello playing, and by also providing workshops taught by expert instructors for all levels and abilities.
The project collaborates with local and national composers to create music that is accessible to both beginners and advanced players, and also strives to create pieces to showcase the cello's versatility by playing music not generally associated with cello (such as jazz, rock, alternative, etc.) to inspire their members and audience to learn more about playing the cello or musical instrument. Their goal is to foster a stronger and more diverse community of musicians by providing music education in different genres to create more knowledgeable cellists who are able to play with other musicians in non-classical genres. In addition, the Boulder Cello Project strives to inform and entertain their members and audiences by providing unique musical experiences by collaborating with other artists and musicians in their area, and will also be giving back to their community by performing for retirement communities and other non-profit organizations. Fulfilling cello dreams by creating a community of players to play, learn, share and grow! Hiking to the summit of Mt. Sherman (14,035 ft) with 11 cellists.
Special Thanks!
Special thanks to the wonderful Ann Moceyunas of the Atlanta Cello Project for sharing her love of cello and organizing expertise - so we don't have to reinvent the wheel! The information will of course differ and change as our group grows and develops, but for now, we love how she's developed her community of cellists so we're using her group as our model! Also, to Tom Czwornog who, with his insights, has helped us solidify our goals. And of course, to our wonderful sponsors and volunteers!
A very special "Thank You!" to Clayton Vaughn, our first Music Director and Gemma Varney two of our founding members of BCP. Both have moved out-of-state, but still provides guidance and insight. |
